Frankfort-Schuyler Middle School Places Third in Prevention Council Drug Quiz
A team of seven students and one peer mentor from Frankfort-Schuyler middle school took third place in the Herkimer County Prevention Council’s annual Drug Quiz Show held on March 14 at Herkimer College.
The Drug Quiz Show strives to heighten school, home and community substance abuse awareness by providing middle school students with the opportunity to have fun while gaining the knowledge, skills, and self-confidence needed to make safe and healthy, real-life choices regarding the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
During the competition, students in grades six through eight from seven local school districts were asked to answer questions on a variety of related topics including drugs, alcohol, gambling and bullying while volunteers from local law enforcement, human service agencies and Herkimer College served as judges.
Members of the Frankfort-Schuyler team were Amber Jacobs, Destany Martinez, Haley McKernan, Carolyn Roser, Alex Service, Angelina Tangorra, Cecilia Tofani and peer mentor Nolan Amendolare.
As the third place winners, the team from Frankfort-Schuyler will receive a prize package including movie tickets and snacks. Each team that participated will also receive a trophy and a pizza party from the Prevention Council to recognize the hard work they put into preparing for the competition.
“Even if they didn't win the competition today, they've gained a lot of valuable information that will serve them well throughout life,” said Herkimer County Prevention Council Regional Coordinator Nicole Law.
Local schools that competed for the title of 2019 Herkimer County Drug Quiz Show Champions were Central Valley Academy, Dolgeville, Frankfort-Schuyler, Herkimer, Little Falls, Poland and Town of Webb.
