Second Graders Create Their Own Communities

Student projects sitting on a table with green tablecloth

As part of the second grade curriculum at Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary, students explore the differences between rural, suburban and urban communities. To support this learning, students recently used their STEAM time to create their own communities, helping build meaningful cross-curricular connections.

Students designed and built their communities using a variety of materials in the STEAM room. This hands-on approach helped deepen their understanding while encouraging creativity and collaboration. To make personal connections, some students chose to include family-owned or local businesses in their designs, making the experience even more relevant and engaging.

It was a great time watching students learn, create and take pride in their projects!
