Frankfort-Schuyler Third Graders Explore Art at Wellin Museum

Students working together on creating a collage.

Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School third graders participating in the Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES Honors Program visited the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum of Art at Hamilton College on March 13.

During the visit, students explored two exhibitions and created their own quick-drying collage paintings. Guided by Museum Education Manager Marjorie Hurley, Assistant Manager Emily Girard and student docents, the students engaged in hands-on activities designed to build confidence in a museum setting, develop skills for observing and discussing art, and understand how different environments shape personal identity and storytelling. The program also encouraged creative expression through a variety of art materials.

The trip allowed students to connect with peers from other districts while experiencing art in a collaborative, interactive setting.
