The Frankfort-Schuyler Central School District is pleased to recognize Frankfort-Schuyler senior Joseph Mathlin, who is the recipient of the DAR Good Citizens Award.

The award, which is presented by the Oneida Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, is given to a senior who exemplifies the qualities of dependability, leadership, patriotism and service. Joseph received the award at a ceremony held at the Utica Public Library on May 2.

Joseph was one of eight students who opted to participate in the scholarship portion of the Good Citizens Award contest, for the opportunity to compete at the national level. In order to participate, Joseph had to submit lists of his community and school activities, describe how his community service has been effective or made a difference, explain how he has exhibited the four qualities of a Good Citizen, and express his future plans. He also wrote an essay with strict guidelines, including a two-hour time limit, no more than 550 words, no reference materials and the title of the essay was unknown in advance.

The Good Citizens Award reflects Joseph’s hard work, leadership and commitment to making a positive difference in his community. Congratulations to Joseph on this prestigious recognition!
