Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary Honors Veterans with Special Program

Students singing at Veterans Day Program.

Frankfort-Schuyler Elementary School held its annual Veterans Day Program on Nov. 7 to honor and celebrate those who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

The program opened with “Drum Roll,” performed by the Frankfort-Schuyler Jr./Sr. High School band. The band also performed the national anthem, “Freedom City March” and “Marches of the Armed Forces” throughout the ceremony. During the opening, the Notre Dame National Junior ROTC Color Guard presented the American flag.

Elementary Principal Mrs. Owens welcomed students, faculty, veterans and their families before the program continued with a series of student performances.

Pre-K students sang “Oh, I Love America,” followed by Ms. Ward’s and Mrs. McLean’s classes performing “Grand Old Flag.” First graders performed “American Everyday,” and second graders sang “Heart of America.”

Students Lillian Christensen and Riley Maley shared essays titled “Statue of Liberty” and “Uncle Sam,” while Carly Mazza, Isabella Roach and Silas Bull read “A Veteran’s Christmas Poem.” Third graders performed “My Country Tis of Thee,” and fourth graders sang “Mighty United.”

Mrs. Klein’s fifth grade class performed “We Honor You,” and Race Bugeya, Joseph Mathlin and Addyson Thibault concluded the musical portion of the event with a performance of “Taps.”

Veterans in attendance shared their experiences, speaking about their ranks, branches of service and where they served, including Bosnia, Germany, Iraq and Vietnam. After the program, fifth grade students met with the veterans to express their gratitude.

NYS Senator Mark Walczyk’s Communications Director, Ashley Fernandez, also offered remarks during the ceremony.

Robert Cherry, representing the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services, presented the school with a proclamation from Governor Kathy Hochul. The proclamation declares November 2025 as Veterans Month and Nov. 11 as Veterans Day in the Empire State. It also recognizes the many sacrifices veterans have made to preserve freedom for all Americans.

The program was a heartfelt tribute to local heroes, made possible through the dedication of students and staff. From the singing to the cards and artwork included in the gift bags for veterans, everyone worked hard to make the event a meaningful celebration of gratitude and respect.
