Advanced Placement Process (APP)

New York State Education Department (NYSED) program permits physically and emotionally appropriate students to try out for an athletic team that is outside of their grade placement. It is called the Athletic Placement Process (APP). Below is an outline of the process:

  1. Parent permission is needed to start the Advanced Placement Process (APP). The parental permission form can be obtained from the Athletic Director, High School Nurse, or the student’s coach. The parental permission form must be signed, dated, and returned to the School Nurse's office; or

    School Fax Number: 315-895-4032
    School Nurse’s Email: sjones@frankfort-schuyler.org

  2. Confirmation of the child’s updated physical exam (within 1 year of the sport start date). Please contact your child’s school nurse or Healthcare Provider regarding the last physical exam date on file for your child.

  3. Signed parental permission form and a copy of your child's current physical will be sent to the School’s Medical Director, Dr. Grace. The School’s Medical Director will determine maturity clearance for your child to continue to the Physical Fitness Testing phase of APP.

  4. Physical Fitness Testing: Your child will need to successfully complete a series of exercises, deemed appropriate to your child’s age and the sport level of play. Fitness testing is administered by a school’s Physical Education Teacher. The student needs to successfully meet fitness testing standards to continue with the APP process.

  5. TRY-OUTS. Once your child has completed all of the above steps, he/she will be eligible to try out for the team.

PLEASE NOTE: completing this process does not mean that your child has a place on the team. It allows them to be able to try out for the team.

Thank you. Please don't hesitate to call the health office with questions.
