BA EnglishNYS CertifiedEnglish 7-12Students with Disabilities: Generalist (7-12)Gifted and Talented Education (Pre-K-12)Welcome to my webpage! My name is Rachel Olson and I am your child’s seventh grade English teacher. I am excited about this coming year and look forward to getting to know your child. I am eager to start a challenging, rigorous, yet fun year!
Although I am a young professional, I offer a great deal to Frankfort-Schuyler. Born and raised in Ilion, I am familiar with the Mohawk Valley and how closely knit our communities are. Over the last decade, the Frankfort-Schuyler School District has welcomed me with open arms--as only a small town school can do--and just by visiting this page, you have shown me that you are invested in your child’s education. Prior to coming to Frankfort, I spent time in rural, urban, and suburban districts, working with grades 7-11 (including AP Language and Composition), gifted and talented education, and students with disabilities. I later taught four semesters of Children's Literature at Herkimer College. I am certified by New York State in English (grades 7-12), Students with Disabilities (grades 7-12), and Gifted and Talented Education (Pre-K- grade 12). Before working here, I spent the year teaching a magnet program in inner-city Rochester, NY, where my students filmed our own documentary, which we screened in person to the American Educational Research Association's (AERA's) annual conference in San Francisco. I attended Nazareth College, in Rochester, NY, for both undergraduate (BA English, Honors) and graduate degrees (MS Education, Students with Disabilities, Gifted and Talented Education). In January of 2017, I earned my second graduate degree--Masters in Education (Curriculum and Instruction)--this time from Western Governor's University. While here, I have worked as the English department's curriculum coordinator, founder and advisor of the Alliance Club, co-advisor of the Friends of Rachel Club, and as an active member of several committees.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Email is likely the best way to reach me—at rolson@frankfort-schuyler.org—though I can be reached here at the school at (315) 895-7461 ext. 3204. Again, I anticipate an exciting year for your child as we tackle the more rigorous challenges set forth by New York State.
I am sincerely grateful for your time and support. Having a parent who cares is your child’s greatest educational asset. Thank you and enjoy the rest of the year!
Sincerely,
Rachel Opels

In my spare time, I like to draw, paint, run, and spend time with my fiance Nick and our two cats, Albus and Ariana. I have even sold some of my art online! When I am not grading, I'm busy reading as much as I can or listening to audiobooks and podcasts. Nick and I have recently discovered our love for camping, hiking, and kayaking, so I hope to do more of that soon!
