Sixth Grade Chorus

• There are 4 sections of this class totaling approximately 90students.
• Each section meets once every four days for 40 minutes.
• This group will work on developing basic choral techniques including: pitch-matching; tone production; two-part harmony; basic music vocabulary; and score-reading.
• Special attention will be paid to the boys' changing voices.
• Two-part choral singing will be reinforced.
• Three-part choral singing may be introduced.
• Students will demonstrate their mastery of the learned concepts in two evening performances.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus

• There are 2 sections of this class totaling approximately 115 students.
• Each section meets every other day for 40 minutes.
• This group will work on improving choral techniques including: pitch-matching; tone production; and score-reading.
• Continued attention will be paid to transitioning through the boys' changing voices.
• Three-part choral singing will be reinforced.
• Students will demonstrate their mastery of the learned concepts in two evening performances.
• Students will have the opportunity to participate in NYSSMA Solo Competition.

Senior High Chorus (Grades 9-12)

• This chorus of approximately 87 students will meet every other day for a full 80-minute block.
• This ensemble will work on mastering choral techniques including: pitch-matching; tone production; score-reading; and 3-part harmony.
• Four-part (SATB) singing will be introduced and developed.
• Students will demonstrate their mastery of the learned concepts in two or three evening performances.
• Students will have the opportunity to participate in NYSSMA Solo Competition.
• Students will receive 5 small-group voice lessons per quarter.

Music Theory I

• This class meets for a full 80-minute block once every four days.
• During the first three quarters of the year, the class will learn basic written and aural music theory concepts.
• Students will practice these concepts by writing short compositions throughout the year.
• Students will use musical computer software programs including Alfred Music Theory and Finale.
• As the culminating project for this course students will apply their knowledge of written and aural musical concepts by composing a full-length Art Song for vocal soloist and piano.

Sixth Grade Chorus

• Report card grades will be based on effort, participation, and ability.
• Students will be evaluated individually and in small groups.

Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus

• 80 points of the report card grade will be based on effort, participation, and ability.
• 20 points of the report card grade will be based on written assignments completed in class.

Senior High Chorus

• 70 points of the report card grade will be based on effort, participation and ability in rehearsal.
• 30 points of the report card grade will be based on lesson attendance.

*The Midterm Exam grade for all chorus classes will be based on the student's performance in the Winter Concert. Any student unable to perform in the Winter Concert for any reason will be given an opportunity to make up the Midterm Exam Performance with other students in the weeks immediately following the performance.

*The Final Exam grade for all chorus classes will be based on the student's performance in the Spring Concert. Any student unable to perform in the Spring Concert for any reason will be given an opportunity to make up the Final Exam Performance with other students in the weeks immediately following the performance.

* Only one make-up opportunity will be provided after each concert.

Music Theory

• Report card grades will be based on workbook activities, supplemental exercises, and workbook checks.
• The Midterm Exam grade in this class will be based on the student's mastery of the concepts learned to date.
• The Final Exam grade in this class will be based on the student's completion of the final Art Song project.

Sixth Grade Chorus, Seventh and Eighth Grade Chorus, Senior High Chorus: There is NO STATE ASSESSMENT FOR THESE CLASSES

• One pocket folder and 10-20 sheets of looseleaf paper. This folder will be kept in the Chorus Room and will not be brought home. Students should have a folder specifically designated for Chorus.
