French 1- This course will introduce you to French vocabulary, grammar, listening, writing and speaking skills. You will also gain knowledge and understanding of other cultures as we learn about different French speaking countries. At the end of the year, 8th Grade students will take the State Proficiency Exam. By the end of the first year, students should be able to better understand the spoken word, carry on a short conversations, write a short composition and read short stories. Text Used: Discovering French, Bleu (Units 1-9)
French 2- French 2 is a continuation of French 1. The four language skills are further developed while expanding knowledge of grammar, building vocabulary and exploring cultural issues. By the end of the second year of study, students should be able to better comprehend the spoken word, carry on longer conversations, write a composition and read short stories in French.
French 3- This course builds on the foundations established at the first and second year levels by providing students with a rich and varied linguistic experience. Students are presented with topics involving culture, history, and contemporary reality of Francophone countries. In addition to a review and refinement of grammar and vocabulary, the four language skills will be further developed. Spanish 1- This course is an introductory language course combining the study of vocabulary and grammar, and the different customs of Spanish speaking countries. Students are expected to reach a certain level of proficiency in the basic skills of reading, writing, listening, and speaking the language. At the end of the year 8th Grade students will take a State Proficiency Exam. Text Used: Navegando 1 (Units 1-10 covered)
Spanish 2-This course will be a continuation of Spanish 1. The four language skills: reading, listening, writing, and speaking in Spanish are further devloped while expanding knowledge of grammar, vocabulary, and various cultural issues. By the end of the second year of Spanish, students should be able to better comprehend the spoken word, carry on longer conversations, write a composition and read short stories in the target language. Although a local final exam is given this year, students should be aware that Spanish 2 is preparing them for the Spanish regents taken at the end of Spanish 3. Students in Spanish 1 will take a Second Language State Proficiency Exam during Regents week in June,2009 if they are in the 8th Grade.There will be a 20 point speaking component as part of this exam which will be administered in May.
Students in 7th Grade French or Spanish 1 will have a local class exam.
French 2 students will take a local exam with a speaking component at the end of the year.
French 3 students will take the Comprehensive Regents Exam in French in June of 2008 which includes a 24 point speaking component administered in May. |
