Reese Road Elementary Principal

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome Back to Reese Road Elementary School! We are all looking forward to the opening of school on September 7th. The Custodial staff has been very busy scrubbing the building and it will be shiny and clean for the opening day of school. The teachers are busy making lesson plans and setting up their classrooms. Mrs. Salvaggio and I have been busy organizing: the bus passes are made; class lists are complete; new students have been registered and welcomed. We are ready to welcome all the RR children back to school.

New students should report to the office on the first day of school. A staff member has been assigned to you and will walk you to your classroom. All returning students should wait in the hall at the assigned space for their classroom until the bell rings.

Our schedule for next year will remain a six day cycle. The days will be identified by the letters A-F. Large letters will be posted in the Library window to remind everyone of the letter of the day. Please post the daily calendar to help you remember when to bring in musical instruments and when to wear sneakers for PE.

We have exciting news! The parents will soon be able to access their child’s report card and progress notes on line. Further information will be sent home soon.

The first PTo meeting is scheduled for September 8th. Please  join the PTO and help the PTO to provide the extras such as covering the transportataion costs for field trips, purchasing assemblies, and sponsoring exciting events for RR students and families.

I know that everyone is excited to come back and have been busy shopping for supplies and new clothes. The PTO will be setting up a school store in the near future and will have supplies for sale at the school during lunch period and before school. Please remember to dress your child in comfortable clothing. Sneakers are always a good choice. Flip flops are not allowed due to possible falling hazard. The new rubber band bracelets that the children are wearing should remain at home as students have been observed snapping one another, selling the bands to each other, and arguing over them. Enjoy back to school shopping.

We look forward to seeing you on September 7th. Please call if you have any questions 895-7491.

REESE ROAD ELEMENTARY NEWS

Dear Reese Road Elementary Parents and Junior Knights:

It is indeed a pleasure to welcome all our returning students and our new students to school for the start of the 2010-2011 school year! The faculty and staff at Reese Road Elementary school hope that you have enjoyed your summer; they are excited and look forward to sharing many academic experiences with our students. A new school year brings excitement and sometimes a little nervousness as we anticipate new teachers, new friends, and new grade level work. We have been very busy preparing for the Tuesday, September 7, 2010 opening day. The teachers have worked many hours to prepare for the start of school, the maintenance staff has scrubbed and polished the school, Mrs. Salvaggio, her summer workers and I have been busy organizing and preparing for the up-coming year.

Open House will be held on Monday, September 13th. We look forward to seeing all our families at Open House and providing you with an opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and see their classroom. PTO will have refreshments available and they will be looking for parent volunteers for the upcoming school events. Sign up sheets will be posted in each classroom.

If you have walked or driven by Reese Road this summer you may have observed many buses and students on the playground. This summer the Herkimer BOCES Summer School program was held here and every room was occupied. The students from BOCES and the staff had a very busy summer and would like to thank everyone for sharing their school.

Reese Road Elementary school has a tradition of providing a safe and caring learning environment with high expectations for all students. With your help and partnership, we will ensure that every child will have the opportunity to excel academically, socially, and emotionally. We want to invite families to become involved through participation in a variety of activities such as joining PTO, attending parent-teacher conferences, volunteering at school, or participating in special events. As parents, there is one thing we all have in common; we have only the highest hopes and dreams for our children. We ask you to be the central role model in your child’s educational success by focusing on:

  • Attendance- ensuring your child is on time and prepared to learn every day
  • Read as a family every day
  • Set goals for your children to achieve
  • Celebrate academic success
  • Schedule Quiet Time – for homework and organizing for the next day
  • Contact Information – maintain accurate and up to date phone number and address. Provide the secretary with your e-mail address.
  • Grade 3, 4 & 5 will use student agendas to encourage the development of independence and organizational skills. Review your child’s assignments and activities each day and it will send a strong message that school and learning are important.
  • K-2 daily folder - students will place their daily work or important papers in the folder for you to review, sign and return to school. Encourage your student to keep their folder and their agenda in their backpack at all times as it will be used all year.
  • Communicate regularly with your child’s teacher.

We encourage all parents to keep in touch on a regular basis. Please periodically look at the teacher’s web page.

If you have any concerns or suggestions, please contact your child’s teacher or the office at:  Phone: 895-7491 (school office) e-mail: jdayton@frankfort-schuyler.org

We look forward to the 2010-2011 School Year.

Respectfully,

Mrs. Joyce Dayton

RRES Principal
