Mrs Julie Tangorra -Middle School Principal

Welcome to the Middle School.  The Middle School years are important ones for students as well as parents.  The skills and behaviors they are learning now are preparing them for success in high school and beyond.

All Middle School students are assigned to take classes in the core areas of Math, Science, English, and Social Studies.  In addition to these subjects, sixth grade students are also scheduled for Reading, Computer/Technology, Physical Education, Art, and Band and/or Chorus.  Seventh grade students take Physical Education, Art, Band and/or chorus, Technology, Computers, and Family and Consumer Science.  In eighth grade, students are assigned to Foreign Language, Technology, Physical Education, and Health.  These special area classes are all state mandated in Middle School.

Curriculum changes, required assessments, and increased standards for graduating students have had a great impact on schools in New York State.  These demands have made instruction time more valuable than ever.  At the middle school, we are making every effort to keep the educational process moving as smoothly as possible.  Students are reminded, frequently, that their education is our number one priority when they are here.

It is also important for students to develop their character as well as their academic skills.  The Middle School years are a time of great social and emotional growth for students.  Peer relations become a strong influence on students which can cause much stress for them as well as their parents.  During this time of vast growth and change, parents can help by being supportive and listening to their child.  It is helpful to offer suggestions and allow the student to problem solve as much as they can on their own.  These expereinces, although difficult at times, will help them grow into well adjusted adults.

Please call the Middle School office if you have concerns that need to be addressed by myself or the staff. Working together, we can ensure the success of every student.

Sincerely,

Julie M. Tangorra
